Rules for Space Usage
General rules for all studio spaces
Due to the high demand for studio space, if you end up not needing the space, please cancel your request as soon as possible in the reserve.washu.edu system, AND email the PAD directly at rjheiske@wustl.edu.
- IMPORTANT: Starting Fall 2026, only student groups who attended the mandatory meeting and training with PAD will have reservation requests approved.
- The Women's Building Dance Studios (as well as all other PAD spaces) are Performing Arts Department owned spaces, not student group spaces. PAD courses, rehearsals, and events have priority. PAD allows SU-recognized student groups to reserve our spaces based on availability after department priorities are scheduled. While we do not anticipate needing to do so, PAD reserves the right to cancel any non-PAD reservation at any time and for any reason. If this does happen, we will try to give you as much advanced notice as possible.
- Please keep in mind that the PAD does not have any staff that is solely dedicated to handling student and student group reservations, so it may take time to receive a dedicated response, especially during the busier times of the semester. All of our staff have other responsibilities that will often take priority, so your advanced planning and patience are appreciated.
- Only students or groups who have received confirmation of their reservation should be in the space, and ONLY during the requested time.
- Students should leave room in the same condition, or better than it was found.
- Students should not enter a space before their reservation time and should not interrupt someone else's reservation in order to cross through the space.
- Upon leaving, students should make sure all doors are closed.
- Students should leave the studio by the time the building closes (12:00 am).
- Food and drink (with the exception of water bottles/containers) are prohibited.
- No furniture or props may be used or taken from the studio. No furniture or props belonging to student groups may be left in the studio after your reserved time.
- No outside props are to be used in the studio, unless approved by PAD. No heavy or sharp objects are to be placed, dropped, or dragged on the floor. Students should be courteous of others rehearsing in the area. Acting blocks, tables, chairs and mats should be returned to the perimeter of the studio.
- By reserving our spaces, you (if reserved as an individual) or your group assumes responsibility for the space and anyone in it during your reservation. Any reports of misuse, neglect, or disregard of studio policies will be investigated.
- This is a DANCE STUDIO and is primarily used for dance classes and rehearsals. The floor is a specialized sprung dance floor, not a gym floor. It is imperative that anyone using the space adheres to the guidelines in order keep the floors in good condition.
- In dance classes and rehearsals, dancers are often barefoot, lying on the floor, etc. Please be considerate in how you use and leave the space.
- Dance shoes, socks, or bare feet are preferred. (The floors are cleaned every day) No street shoes, tap shoes, or rubber shoes that leave marks on the floor. If you notice the floors are being scuffed, please remove your shoes immediately. If you must wear street shoes, please bring a clean pair with you or clean the bottoms BEFORE you step onto the dance floor.
- The Women’s Building exterior doors will be locked at 10 pm, please have your WashU ID available to enter the building.
- Capacity is 40-50
- Please do not enter the Olin 2 studio through Olin 1. We ask that students use the lower level walk-through or exterior west door to enter Studio 2 so as not to disturb those rehearsing in Studio 1.
