Marcus Residency Public Showing and Q&A with Shura Baryshnikov

Join the Performing Arts Department for a studio showing and Q&A with performer, director, and choreographer Shura Baryshnikov. As the 2026 Marcus Artist-In-Residence, Shura will set work on WashU undergraduate students for the upcoming Washington University Dance Theatre production titled “right now”. The work-in-progress preview will be followed by a Q&A session with Shura Baryshnikov led by David Marchant, Professor of the Practice in Dance.

About Shura Baryshnikov: Shura Baryshnikov is a Rhode Island-based performer, director, and choreographer who works broadly across dance, theatre, and opera. She co-founded the contemporary dance project Doppelgänger Dance Collective and the Contact Improvisation research and performance ensemble SetGo. Choreographic and performance credits include projects with Apple TV, Hartford Stage Company, Baryshnikov Arts, Trinity Repertory Company, FirstWorks, Motion State Arts, Emmanuel Music, Urbanity Dance, The Gamm Theatre, Odyssey Opera, and the Contemporary American Theater Festival, among others. She is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Theatre Arts & Performance Studies at Brown University and a member of Actors' Equity Association, the American Guild of Musical Artists, and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. Shura teaches a range of practices including the Viewpoints Technique, Contact Improvisation, contemporary floorwork, and composition. In summer of 2025, Shura was also certified in Countertechnique®, a movement system to help the dancer think about the dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action.
